Does it ever end?

Do Apple iPod headphones go well in the wash??

I thought I'd test a little theory of mine that not all electronic goods die in water!

To do this I had to set up a little experiment. I carefully and accidently placed a pair of Apple iPod headphones into the left rear pocket of my cycling jersey. I then placed this top into the washing basket.

22 minutes into the experiment my wife extracted the top (and other soiled items) from the basket and placed them in the washing machine. I had earlier switched the machine to 'max water use' just to firm up any results.

Note to all greenies that I collected all waste water so you are free to come over anytime and shower in it before I tip onto the olive trees out the back.

After some time spent waiting for our ultra slow front loader I removed the jersey and subsequently extracted the headphones. At this point I noted how shiny and new they looked.

I then plugged one end into the iPod and the other into my ears. At this point, I kid you not, my wife took 2 steps back. Was my head about to explode???

I confidently pressed play and instantly my head was filled with the uber cool tunes of Stickshifts and Safetybelts

There you have it!

Wednesday Update

Does the fastest always win?

I think this is a question that most riders with even a small amount of experience would confidently tell you - no way! In reality though the fastest probably wins a bit, but certainly not always.

Well, last night I put this to the test.

The drill
A 4 up sprint lasting 1.5 laps (375m). All roders are evenly spaced at about 10m apart.

The competition:
1 x female rider!
1 x junior rider!
1 x MMAS7 rider (yes - that's aged 60-64!)!!!!!

Me:
37 years old

What happened:
1st drill I was 3rd wheel. MMAS7 was 1st, female was 2nd, junior 4th. Caught female within 150m with view of sitting in for the next 200m. Almost immediately junior goes around me, I think 's$#t' and jump on. Around the last bend we are fanned out up the bank - of course I am up top! End result: MMAS7, junior, me, female........

2nd drill I was 2nd wheel. female 1st, junior 3rd, MMAS7 4th. Still embarrassed I went out hard from the beginning but could 'feel' someone right on my tail early. Rode inside black line to make the shortest run possible. End result: me, junior, MMAS7, female

3rd drill I was 1st wheel (yikes). Went hard again and used last drop of energy to kick with 150m to go. Had junior on the hip so it was do or die. End result:
me, junior, MMAS7, female

The moral:
I'd back myself anyday against this sort of competition but after the 1st drill I learnt never to underestimate the competition.

The follow up:
Hang on - just remembered this was just a training session. Feel like a bit of a W.....

Monday's Blog

Is it Friday yet???

I am absolutely knackered from training and racing last week so I have to admit that it's a struggle here at work. For the 1st time in a while I am looking forward to my day off the bike!! My calves will thank me later.

Track training is surprisingly tough. The short but regular bursts of energy take their toll by the time the 2.5 hour session is up. I think I need a KERS system!!!!

After receiving another of GazMan's W...... Alerts I was inspired to give myself a good story to write about. I wanted to talk about attacking the field, I wanted to talk about TT'ing my way to a solo victory but most of all I wanted to talk about a couple of hot babes commenting on my physique........... But then I realised - who really gives a S#%T.

I am going to keep my story in my head and let the W....... tell all the tales.
